COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER

Community Health Worker

All community health training provided by the College of Clinical Care is trauma-focused. Trauma-focused, community health workers are: 

health care providers and frontline public health workers that extend health care services to vulnerable populations impacted by trauma, including implementing programs that promote, maintain, and improve individual and overall community health, wellness, prevention, and recovery from trauma; and, serve as advocates, liaisons, researchers, and mediators between health/social services and the community in order to facilitate access to trauma services and improve the quality and cultural competence of trauma service delivery.

Community health worker Recovery & Wellness Specialist™ is a bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to offer trauma-focused care while assisting individuals with life, health, wellness, and recovery issues. The CHW employs the coaching and peer services models to address health promotion and prevention needs.

Community Health Worker - General Practitioner is a bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This certification allows the CHW to customize the training track to include recognized subject matters and information that are important to the CHW.

Community Health Worker Trauma Specialist™ is a bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to work with individuals, communities, and organizations through a trauma-focused, bio-psycho-social- spiritual treatment approach. The CHW provides support through whole health promotion and prevention education, peer support, recovery, and rehabilitation care to those impacted by trauma.

Community Health Worker Spiritual Care Specialist™ is a bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to utilize evidence-based, bio-psycho- social-spiritual approaches toward health promotion and prevention. The CHW combines advanced clinical pastoral education with peer recovery support and psychiatric rehabilitation in providing trauma-focused, spiritual care services.

Community Health Worker Disaster Health™ is a bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to serve, educate, and supervise the deployment of health promotion and prevention services caused by trauma experienced from critical incidents, emergencies, crises, disasters, and catastrophes. The CHW will be qualified and competent to assist individuals and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from adverse climate events utilizing the peer recovery support and psychiatric rehabilitation models.

Community Health Worker Mental Health & Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist™ is a post-bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to offer health promotion and prevention interventions that facilitate the process of restoring individual and community functioning and well-being of those diagnosed with bio-psycho-social-spiritual disorders and disabilities. A range of evidence-based coaching and counseling interventions will be explored, including mental health first aid, wellness recovery action plan, emotional CPR, peer support and recovery, brain health, heart math, spiritual care, forensic support, victim advocacy, etc.

Community Health Worker Global Health Provider is a post-bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to serve those impacted by inhumane traumatic experiences.  The CHW employs the bio-psycho-social spiritual model through the trauma-focused care approach to address moral injury, victim advocacy, human trafficking and exploitation, immigration, internally displaced persons (IDP), refugees, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and more.

Community Health Worker Behavioral Health Specialist™ is a master degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This  specialist certification is designed to prepare the CHW to work with individuals and groups to resolve trauma and other mental health conditions utilizing evidence-based interventions.

Community Health Worker Forensic Trauma Specialistis a post-bachelor degree level certification (or, equivalent training, experience and supervision). This specialization is designed to prepare the CHW to offer health promotion and prevention services to individuals and groups impacted by trauma. The CHW provides care and support to individuals impacted by crime and institutionalization, including victims, perpetrators, and employees. Community environments and systems, victim advocates, court-appointed special advocates, criminal justice and other interactions with legal proceedings, public safety, post-conviction assistance, etc. will be explored.
