GREEN CROSS TRAINING

GCAT credential holders must become members of Green Cross through application and payment of annual dues to receive and to maintain certification for which they qualify. Previous training from other organizations will be evaluated for credit and acceptance on an individual basis. All certification levels require application to the Green Cross Academy for Traumatology and maintaining membership to maintain certification(s).

Courses

Compassion Fatigue Specialist 

This is for those primarily interested in teaching and guiding colleagues about self-care, developing and managing a self-care plan, and effective compassion fatigue stress management as well as the introduction in the study of the assessment and treatment of secondary traumatic stress reaction (PTSD). This level is designed to provide basic or general awareness leading to trauma competence.

Current Requirement:

  • Compassion Stress Management Workshop/Training

  • Compassion Fatigue Therapist Workshop/Training

Field Traumatologist:

This certification is earned by those who complete the FT course of training or equivalent training and experiences associated with crisis intervention, working with Incident Command structures, and other knowledge to prepare them to work with survivors of disasters. This level is designed to provide trauma proficiency.

Current Requirement:

  • Disaster Trauma Workshop/Training or Field Trauma Workshop/Training

  • FEMA on-line course: IS-100

  • FEMA on-line course IS-700

  • FEMA on-line course IS-394

  • Completion of the Compassion Stress Management and Compassion Fatigue Therapist workshops

Certified Traumatologist:

This certification is earned by those who complete the FT certification and a program of study covering four other areas of expertise: assessment and diagnosis, treatment competency, contextual applications, and self-care, in addition to clinical experience. This level is designed to increase trauma expertise or enhance trauma specialty knowledge and skills. The Certified Traumatologist credential is federally recognized by the Veterans Administration (VA), Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), and other response agencies.

Current Requirements:

  • Disaster Trauma Workshop/Training or Field Trauma Workshop/Training

  • FEMA on-line course: IS-100

  • FEMA on-line course IS-700

  • FEMA on-line course IS-394

  • Completion of the Compassion Stress Management and Compassion Fatigue Therapist workshops/trainings

 

The “Clinical” designation has additional requirements:

  • Treating Traumatized Families Workshop

  • Child and Adolescent Trauma Workshop

  • Assessment and Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Treating Anxiety and Phobia (EMDR Level 1)

  • 100 hours direct field work in trauma (one to one, group, or family therapy)

  • Completion of all requirements for Compassion Fatigue Educator, Compassion Fatigue Therapist, and Field Traumatologist Certifications

The Green Cross of Traumatology is the only federally recognized trauma organization that deploys trauma specialists to national and international critical incidents, emergencies, crises, disasters, and catastrophes. Through our partnership with Green Cross, classes completed through CCC at all certification levels qualify for national and international deployments.
