The National Board of Chaplains (NBOC) is a membership, training and board certification association committed to establishing the legal status, and funding of chaplaincy at the state-level. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) expanded the national infrastructure for the public financing of chaplain spiritual care in 2022 that must be ratified through each state medicaid system. There are four existing billing codes that are currently recognized and accepted for hospice care (G9473), individual (Q9002) & group counseling (Q9003), and spiritual assessments (Q9001).
