NATIONAL HEALTHCARE CHAPLAIN

The Certified National Healthcare Chaplain™ (CNHCh) curriculum requires the successful completion of 400 hours (100 hours of education/300 hours of supervised experience) of advanced clinical pastoral education and training in order to receive the designation. All participants must pass the CPE Advanced Specialty Comprehensive Exam (CASCE) in order to complete the training and receive designation.The CNHCh training establishes the National Healthcare Chaplaincy Curriculum (NHCC), which explores the following:

2.   Fundamentals of Salutogenesis and Iatrogenesis

3.   Understanding Healthcare Systems

4.   Individual & Group Counseling

5.   Spiritual Screening, History, Assessments

6.   Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Teamwork

7.   Communication and Documentation Skills

8.   Family Systems

9.   Theodicy & Thanatology

10. Compassion Fatigue and Moral Injury

11. Crisis Intervention and Trauma Resolution

12. Ethics, Advocacy & Professional Responsibilities

The components of the National Healthcare Chaplaincy Curriculum (NHCC) includes the exploration of the chaplain scope of practice and development of spiritual healthcare competencies. Healthcare Chaplain specialties may be achieved in: (a) community health, including hospice & palliative care, neuroscience, and, rehabilitation & recovery; (b) trauma, including PTSD, suicide, domestic violence, compassion fatigue and moral injury; (c) mental & behavioral health; and (d) grief.
